VANDERBILT LAKESIDE, PHILMONT NY
Philmont is the shy baby sister of louder more colorful City of Hudson. A quiet little stop off the Taconic Parkway in Columbia County with views of the Catskill Mountains curtaining the backdrop. It was as though our engines were thrusted downward and we were forced to reduce our pace into relaxation. Things move a little slower upstate and that is quality I can fall in love with!
We stopped at Vanderbilt Lakeside, a newly opened 8-room guest house and chef driven bar & restaurant. Matt & Henrietta (owners) reimagined this old structure and put their urban and amusing stamp on it. The decor, unexpected with a touch of mystery, adds to the surreal yet inviting atmosphere. The rooms, understated and contemporary give off the 'clear your head' vibe and who could'nt use that once in a while? Enhancing the experience is aromatherapy amenities from 2Note in Hudson. Getting out of a hot shower is made easier knowing luxurious turkish towels from Brooklinen are waiting for you.
Vanderbilt Lakeside is rapidly gaining fame for their outstanding American fare. After taking my first bite into the Bar Room Burger it was clear why this place comes alive at dinnertime. It's not just a burger... this had a subtle crunch when biting into the grilled bun and the patty was so juicy it was the ultimate play on two opposite textures. My compliments to the Chef for literally preparing the best burger I ever had. After this first experience, I cant wait to try their Schnitzel! I can totally justify a 60 minute ride up north just to dine here again.

Refreshingly cool Panna Cotta and indulgent Chocolate Molten Cake was the final act for our dinner and our pallets were simply mesmerized. Just enough to go play some games in the club-like game room or take a stroll along the edges of the shimmering lake. Classic Adirondack chairs outline the enchanting fire pit welcoming friends new and old.
Matt & Henrietta's take on the Continental Breakfast is to no surprise, elevated. Offering a selection of Cheddar Jalapeño biscuits the size of my fist, sugared donuts, a variety of the freshest fruit, and their piping hot blend of fresh coffee and tea. Mornings like these remind me to savor the small moments and appreciate the sincere thought that went into this simple yet heartwarming spread.
